Valentine Bookmarks to Give

Directions for the child who wants to make his own Valentines. These simple heart decorated bookmarks are fun to make and unique to give away.

You will need:

  • pink, white and red construction paper
  • 2 by 6 inch cardboard strips
  • 1/4 to 1/2 inch satin craft ribbon or colored yarn
  • scissors
  • hole punch
  • stickers

Cut the cardboard into 2 by 6 inch strips.

Fold the construction paper and cut out paper hearts of different sizes.

Punch a hole in the top center, (1/2 inch from the edge) of each cardboard bookmark.

Decorate the bookmark with stickers or cut-out hearts glued in place. Use a Sharpie or acid-free ink marker to write a greeting on the front of the bookmark and your name on the back.

Ideas for Greetings:

  1. A Bible verse such as "A friend loves at all times," or "Love is of God."
  2. Happy Valentine's Day
  3. Books--Gotta love them!
  4. Friends 4-ever
  5. A quotation about friendship
  6. Valentine's Day--2007

Thread ribbon through the punched hole, pull tight and trim the ends to about 3 inch

Now your Valentines can be fitted into envelopes or given without envelopes.

You might want to add a picture of yourself, copied on a computer, printed, trimmed and glued to the bookmarks.

Little ones may want to color hearts onto their bookmarks.

Postage stamps salvaged from mail or purchased from a hobby store can be used to make these bookmarks truly unique. Look for the heart or dove stamps.
