Bean Bag Toss Box Game

Make simple beanbags and a target box to practice your shot.

In this article you will find easy directions for sewing bean bags and then for making a box into a target. This homemade game can be played by kids of all ages.

Start by making your bean bags. You will need two pieces of cloth (5 inches square) scrapes for each bean bag. I would suggest three.

Fold cloth so as to cut six squares at once. Use a paper 5 by 5 for your pattern. Pin it to the cloth. Lay the right sides of each pair of squares together and sew up three sides of your square with a zigzag stitch.

Fill each bag with a cup of dry beans or peas. Fold in the raw edges of the bag's fourth side and top-stitch it closed. Presto! You have a nice sturdy bean bag.

When you have finished your bean bags you will need a large cardboard box, construction paper in bright colors, a black marker and a tool to cut target holes.

Cut the holes in one side of a box. Make them far apart and of varying sizes that the bag will fit through.

Use the paper to decorate around each hole, gluing each in place. Make stars with holes in the center, or flowers, or funny animals with the hole for the mouth.

With the marker write an amount of points: 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 below or beside each hole. Put the highest score by the hole that is smallest and so on to the least points for the largest hole.

You are ready to play bean bag alone or grab a friend! A younger opponent may stand closer. Set up your box and throw lines and shoot some points.

If you play outside be sure to bring those bean bags indoors so they won't get wet and spoil.
